On Monday, September 11, members of the community and public officials joined the city’s firefighters, EMS and police officers in a remembrance ceremony honoring the public safety personnel who gave their lives during the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. The annual event at Overlook Park on Spear Street is organized each year by the South Burlington Fire Department, and was led by Fire Chief Doug Brent. As the sun set over Lake Champlain, Senior Firefighters Roger Pidgeon and Brad Dattilio presented the flags and patriotic songs were sung by The Community Singers. Words of recognition and gratitude were offered in appreciation for the dedicated service of our own community’s first responders, and speakers reflected on the heroic deeds of those that perished while trying to protect the lives of others.
