South Burlington 2, Montpelier 1: Two quick strikes in the second half lifted the South Burlington girls soccer team to a 2-1 win over host Montpelier on Saturday.
Ava Hamme tallied first for the Wolves (1-0) to tie the game at 1-1 in the 63rd minute. Nicole Sobczack then found the back of the net for the game-winning goal five minutes later. Hamme earned an assist on the winning goal.
Chloe Schiff scored on a free kick early in the first half to give Montpelier the lead.
Hannah Murray stopped two shots to earn the win in goal for South Burlington, while Georgia Schiff had 12 saves for the Solons (0-1).
South Burlington 7, Rice 0: Abdi Hassan led the offensive attack for South Burlington as the Wolves ran away from host Rice for a season-opening 7-0 win on Saturday.
Hassan had two goals for the Wolves (1-0), while Samy Slamani had one goal and two assists. Ben Knudsen added a goal and an assist, while Brendan Bridge, Tommy O’Leary and Cody Bellinghiri each scored for South Burlington.
Ben Capano made five stops to earn the shutout, while Owen Greene came up with 12 saves for Rice (0-1).
