South Burlington Fire Lt. Trevor Poor, foreground, followed by South Burlington Probationary Firefighter Ryan DeCourse and others, participating in the silent stair climb at Burlington International Airport on Sept. 11. South Burlington joined firefighters from Burlington, Essex, and the Vermont Air Guard in the climb at the airport parking garage. The event was held to honor the firefighters and first responders who gave their lives saving others during the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. Some of the first responders climbed the five-story airport stairway in full gear a total of 18 times, matching the 110 stories climbed by firefighters in the World Trade Center 17 years ago.
