Orchard School held its second annual Fun Run fundraiser in September, where students were sponsored by friends, family, local businesses, and other community members to raise money for their school. Hosted by Orchard PTO, the Fun Run, their most successful fundraiser, was originally proposed by parent and PTO member Angi Murray. This year, parents Jennifer Bliss, Kristen Landermann, Lianne Cleary, Martha Mcauliffe, Megan Favreau, and Sheramy Tsai joined Murray in organizing the event.
Staff, students, and parent volunteers worked hard to make the run a success, including the creation of an exciting course that brought students around the school track, through the wooded area next to the school, around the school building, and through the parking lot to end at a table of healthy snacks and water. The finish line under a balloon canopy capped off an impressive course for the kindergarten through fifth-grade runners.
Each grade staggered their laps so fellow students from the other grades could encourage and cheer them on. The students were further encouraged by physical education teacher Tommy Hamlin, who ran every lap with every grade. In addition, many parents, grandparents, and staff ran laps or cheered from the sidelines.
Donors generously contributed $15,171 to this year’s Fun Run, while the students gained a sense of accomplishment in finishing a difficult course together on a hot day. The event brings the school together as a
