Congratulations to the 2016 D-1 Field Hockey Champs! See story for details.
The boys cross country team finished second in the Division 1 State Championship on November 5th at Thetford. CVU won on both the boys and girls side. Lucas Calcagni paced the Rebels in 3rd place overall and a 17:07 finish. Trevor Houchens (6th - 17:12), Ethan Sheffield (20 - 17:54), Kevin Le (21 - 18:01), Colin McKay (33 - 18:08) rounded out the Rebels top five. Jackson Hauman was sick all week so Colin McKay had to step up, and he did just that for the Rebels as he finished as the final scorer for the Rebels and propelled them to the 2nd place finish over tough Essex and Burlington teams.
The girls team finished in eleventh place in the Division 1 Championship. Congratulations to both teams for a great season.
After 110 minutes of soccer, the South Burlington boys soccer season ended with a 4-3 shootout loss to top-seeded Essex. The game was stuck 1-1 after the first 80 minutes. Amerlin Nemeye tied the game six minutes into the second half after a set up by Patrick O’Hara. Both teams were scoreless the rest of the way until the start of the shootout.
Ben Lambert and Nemeye made the first two attempts for the Rebels, evening up with the Hornets after two rounds. On Essex’s third attempt, Rebel keeper Josh Phillips denied Matt Lyon’s shot. South Burlington missed their third attempt as well, sailing the shot over the bar. After a successful fourth attempt by Essex, Lukas Kaiser evened things up once again. In the final round, the Essex goalie scored the go-ahead goal, then denied South Burlington and the potential equalizer, which ended the game in favor of the Hornets. It was a great game by two excellent teams. Congratulations to the Rebels on a well played season and a 13-4 record.
