The baseball team was 1-2 last week after some tough matchups against top Division 1 teams. On Wednesday, May 23, the Wolves lost hold of a tied game in the sixth inning as CVU pulled away 5-2. Chance O’Connor and Ethan Klesch had two hits for the Wolves while Klesch and Andrew Cunningham homered in the game. Pitcher Jack Ambrosino played the entire game but took the loss.

The next day, the team found itself on the same side of yet another 5-2 game, this time against Essex. Sammy Premsager and Nolan Antonicci had two hits each.

On Saturday, May 27, the Wolves bounced back and defeated host North Country 6-2. Ben Tate’s five strong innings (eight strikeouts, two hits, two walk and no earned runs) propelled South Burlington to the much needed victory. Antonicci was 3-5 and hit a double while scoring two runs and Premsager scored twice and doubled.


The softball team was also 1-2 last week. On May 23, a quick start helped the Wolves cruise to a 12-4 road win over CVU. Anna Borrazzo had a strong day from the plate as she had three hits and five RBIs, while Brianna Belisle and Ruth Croxford each had two RBIs.

On May 24, South Burlington kept a tight game for five innings with Essex before the Hornets pulled away in the last two, 2-15. Borrazzo took the loss and Christine Constant had two hits.

Two days later, South Burlington fell on the road to North Country. Borrazzo had an RBI
in the 17-2 loss.

On May 25, South Burlington’s Helen Bujold and Eve Heroux fell in the state finals doubles competition, 6-2, 6-2 to a pair from CVU.

Ryan Anderson and Michael Cafiero defeated a team from Montpelier to claim the 2018 doubles championship in the state final on Saturday, May 26. Anderson won the states last year with Ragulan Sivakumar and now is a two-time defending state champion.

Boys Lacrosse

The boys lacrosse team picked up two wins last week. The team racked up 36 goals
and gave up only 15. Cale Dubrul (six goals), Nick Liscinsky (four goals and five assists), and Calvin Hultgren (six goals and seven assists) led the Wolves offense over the two-game stretch. Jack Goodwin (two goals), Rees Baker (two goals), and Patrick O’Hara (one goal and three assists) also played crucial roles in their big May 22 18-9 win over Rice. Aaron Murakami (three goals) and Patrick O’Hara two goals) contributed in their 18-6 rout of Rice a couple days later.

Girls Lacrosse

A 16 goal performance against the Seahorses of Burlington was enough for a 10 goal victory on May 23. Christina March led the way on offense with four goals and one assist, while Joan Vera had three goals and two helpers. Dakota Crane (two assists), Grace Hoehl and Lindsey Booth scored two goals each and Claire Phillips made three saves in the win.
