Track and Field

On Saturday, May 2, the Wolves track and field athletes traveled to Burlington High School for the state championships. The girls team finished in second behind St. Johnsbury with 90 points. The boys team finished tied for fifth place for Division 1.

Boys Team

The Wolves baseball team earned a spot in the state semi-finals for Division 1 after defeating fifth seeded Burr and Burton on Friday, June 1 at home (see photos page 20). Connor McGrath was the hero of the game after knocking in a three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The team scored four total runs in the eighth and overcame a 2–0 deficit for the victory. Jack Ambrosino earned the win after 2 2/3 innings of relief, while starter Ben Tate struck out six and allowed only two hits. McGrath was 2–2 in the game and Sam Premsager had two hits in three at bats.

Girls Lacrosse

After a May 30 home playdown victory over twelfth seeded Burlington by a score of 13–2, the Wolves celebrated the start of June with a dramatic win at home as Willow Yager scored the game winning goal with just 31 seconds left to play. Lindsey Booth had four goals in the game as South Burlington opened up a big lead early in the game. Christina March (three goals), Dakota Crane (two goals), and Caroline Desautels (one goal) contributed for the Wolves offense despite Burlington finding a way to chip at the lead and tie it at 10 with 46 seconds to go. Yager’s tally gave the Wolves the 11–10 quarterfinal victory and a shot in the semis. Claire Phillips made seven saves.

Boys Lacrosse

It took overtime for the boys lacrosse team to get through No. 13 Colchester on May 30 with a 13–12 home win. The victory earned them a June 1 home matchup with Essex High School, a team they went 1–1 with over the regular season. After a back and fourth game, the Hornets took the lead for good with just over four minutes left and grabbed a 10–8 win over the Wolves. Calvin Hultgren had three goals in the game while Cam Chiari (one goal and one assist), Patrick O’Hara (one goal and one assist), Dylan LeClair (one goal), Collin Johnson (one goal) Cale DuBrul (one goal) and Nick Liscinsky (two assists) also contributed for South Burlington. Ryan Hockenbury had 12 saves.

The boys team fell just short of a semifinals berth and a shot at winning a seventh consecutive state title.

The softball team opened its playoffs on the road against Missisquoi on May 30. Anna Borrazzo pitched the entire game for the Wolves, but the team fell 11–6. Borrazzo and Katie Cheung earned two hits while Sarah Brown had a two-run triple for South Burlington.
