Gymnastics

On January 20, the gymnastics team competed at Green Mountain Gymnastics. The Rebels finished in third place with a score of 132.65, behind Essex (142.65), and Champlain Valley (139.15).

The top South Burlington finishers were: Vault: 1. D. Gregoire, SB 8.9, Bars: 2. O. Dickinson, SB 8.7 Beam: 1. D. Gregoire, SB 9.35. Floor: 3. A. Green, SB 9.4. All-Around: 3. D. Gregoire, SB 35.65.

The Rebels travel to St. Johnsbury on January 28.

Boys Hockey

A quick start propelled the Rebels to a 5-2 victory over the Red Raiders on January 18 in Rutland. The Rebels, led by two goals and an assist from Michael Flaherty and Mason Fay’s one goal and one assist game, were leading 3-0 with only one period remaining. Dylan LeClair and Josh Phillips finished off the game with third period goals.

On Saturday, January 21, South Burlington traveled to Woodstock. After a one goal first period, the Rebels scored three goals in each of the last two periods for a commanding 7-3 win. James Patrick scored twice, Fay also had two goals and added an assist, while Xander Tan, Flaherty, and Rees Baker all scored goals. The team plays Rice at Cairns on January 28.

Girls Hockey

Lyssa Tan had 32 saves and Kate Hall scored a goal, but the Rebels girls hockey team fell to Rutland 5-1 at home on Wednesday, January 18. A few days later, the Rebels dropped a game to Northfield, 4-1. Their next contest is January 28 versus BFA St. Albans.

Boys Basketball

On January 16, the Rebels boys basketball team lost a tough game to Champlain Valley 63-44 after leading by three at halftime. The Rebels gave up a 20-8 run in the third period, turning the game in favor of the Redhawks. Nick Liscinsky scored 13, and Ben Moran added 10 in the game.

Saturday, January 21, the Rebels fell again to a strong Missisquoi team. South Burlington was once again victim to a scoring run from their opponent as MVU went on an 18-11 run in the fourth quarter. The final score was 54-45. Hakeem Fuad, Ben Moran, and Ethan Klesch combined for 31 points but it was not enough for the Rebels, who dropped to 6-4 with the loss. Next up is a trip to Colchester on January 27.

Girls Basketball

The Rebels girls basketball team had a busy week of action last week. On Monday, January 16, the Rebels traveled across the state for a matchup with Brattleboro. Grace Hoehl’s 16 points propelled the Rebels to a 44-32 win after finding themselves down 11-2 halfway through the first quarter. The Rebels clawed their way back to take a two point lead into halftime and cruised to a controlling victory in the second half. Emma MacDonough was also a strong contributor for the Rebel offense with seven points.

On Wednesday, the Rebels would once again rely on a rally, this time in the fourth quarter, as they battled their way to a 43-32 victory over U-32. The 15-2 rally in the final four minutes of the game was led by Grace Vincent (nine points), Emma McDonough (nine points), and Joan Vera (eight points).

On Friday, January 20, the Rebels found themselves on the other side of a rally. CVU went on a 23-0 run at the end of the first half and through the third quarter as the Redhawks cruised to a win over the Rebels. The final score was 49-27. The leading scorer for South Burlington was Grace Vincent with 11 points as the Rebels finished the week with a 5-2 record on the season. Next up is Spaulding on January 26.
