The Very Merry Theatre Teens presents “Into the Woods,” a multi-award-winning musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, for multiple performances Friday through Sunday, May 25 to 27. The production features two South Burlington teens, Seth Jolles and Thabitha Moruthane who play leading roles. “Into the Woods” is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales in a musical format that follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel - all tied together by a story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family, and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.
Jolles, a senior in high school, has been dancing, singing, and acting since the age of six. He plays the role of the Wolf in Very Merry Theatre’s “Into the Woods,” and says he is thrilled to be closing his high school theatre career with a role in such an iconic show. Over the years, Jolles has performed with several local theatre arts programs include Very Merry Theatre and FlynnArts. He will be attending Wagner College, where he will major in musical theatre.
Thabitha Moruthane, a junior at South Burlington High School, will be playing Rapunzel in the Very Merry Theatre production. This is her second show with the company. Moruthane is a student of Bill Reed Voice Studios and has attended a musical theater seven-week intensive at Circle in the Square Theater School in New York City. She recently was accepted into a five-week summer program at the Berklee College of Music.
The Very Merry Theatre “Into the Woods” performances will be at O.N.E. Community Center, 20 Allen Street, Burlington. Admission to the show is by donation. For more information, including show times, visit verymerrytheatre.org.
