The Green Mountain Athletic Association (GMAA) announced that Alex Gordon of South Burlington is a recipient of a 2018 GMAA Scholarship. Gordon graduated magna cum laude June 15 from South Burlington High School.

Gordon has run cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track all four years of high school, ran over 500 miles during summer training, and served as team captain. He says, “My teammates have become my closest friends, almost like a second family.” Gordon plans to attend Plymouth State University to study athletic training or sports management and will continue to run cross country.

Also receiving GMAA Scholarships are Alida Beste of Burlington and Riley Fenoff of Danville.

The annual $750 scholarships are awarded by GMAA to graduating high school seniors based on their running history and intent to continue their running careers in college. Funds for the scholarship are raised through an annual 5K race in August. This year’s event, the 26th GMAA Scholarship Trail Race, is scheduled for September 9 at Red Rocks Park in South Burlington.
