In their season opening game, Annika Nielsen led the Rebels as they cruised to a 10-7 win over U-32 on Monday, April 3. Nielsen’s six goals helped propel the home team to victory after falling behind 4-3 in the first half. Willow Yager added a hat trick of her own and an assist. Caroline Desautels added the final Rebel tally and goalie Claire Phillips secured eight saves in the win.
Two days later, the home team Rebels once again dismantled their opponent en route to a 17-12 win over cross-town rival Rice. Nielson’s five goals (four assists), and Yager’s and Dakota Crane’s three goals a piece paced the Rebel offense. Kate Hall (three assists), Joan Vera, and Danielle Sleiman each added two goals in the win. Philips did enough in net and made six saves.
On Saturday, the Rebels finished off a busy opening week with another home win, this time a 15-11 victory over Burr & Burton. Nielson continued her scoring run with six more goals and an assist while Desautels and Crane both added three. Hultgren rounded out the scoring with two goals and an assist and Phillips made 15 saves in the win.
Coach Soucy was enthusiastic after finishing the first week 3-0. “The Rebels played all 3 games without its full line-up, so it is very exciting to think what will happen when the entire team is present,” she said. “The depth on the team is very strong which will keep the level of play high during practices and help the team throughout the regular season.” Next up is an April 13 contest in Rutland.
Ryan Hockenbury’s nine saves helped lead the Rebels to a commanding 14-4 win over Rice in their Friday, April 7 home opener. Nick Liscinsky scored four goals, Calvin Hultgren had three, and Max Capano struck twice for the Rebels. Their next game is an under the lights game versus Salmon River, NY on April 14.
